Session Report for Saturday 6/21/2008

8 Gamers 6 Games

For Sale

(Marshall, Jason, Robert, August, Ty, Clint)

Power Grid: Italy

(Jason, Robert, August Marshall)

This was a pretty tight game of PG. I got 2 hybrid for 4 cities plant early then the market clogged up with worthless plants for several turns, so I was able to run that plant efficiently quite awhile. When the market finally broke I was sitting on a lot of cash and I got a 3 coal for 6 cities plant to bring my total capacity up to 12. At this point I thought I could win the game by building out to 17 cities, but August had reached capacity 13 and had 13 cities (He didn't quite have enough money to go to 17 or he could have won right there). And Robert bought all but two of the coal to keep me from firing my big plant. So I prepared for another round by building to 16 cities and buying double fuel for all of my plants (except the coal plant).

The next round I was able to get a 2 coal for 6 cities plant. It didn't upgrade my capacity at all (I was at 17), but at least I had the coal for it so I was guaranteed of firing all my plants. August reached 17 plant capacity also, but I didn't need to buy any fuel and only had to buy one city so I had more cash left than him and won on a tie breaker. Jason was right there at 16 cities also. It was a fun game with a very chess-like ending.

Risk 2210

Taluva

(Marshall, Robert, Aaron, August)

August's friend Aaron stopped by in the middle of PG so when that ended we got him in a game of Taluva. It's interesting to see how the Taluva strategy has evolved. Now, playing a volcano on someone is not so desirable, and players are trying to create little islands for themselves where they can't be touched. So this game saw some interesting play, with players cutting their villages in half to play another temple and that kind of thing. In the end there was nothing we could do to stop Robert from playing his final two huts, and since he had already played two temples he won the game.

Ingenious

(Ty, Marshall, Drew)

Ingenious is an abstract game by Knizia where players have tiles with two different colors on them which they are trying to play next to like colors on the board. The more like colors you touch with your tile the more points you score in that color. In typically Knizia fashion your final score is equal to the lowest of your individual color scores. In this game I managed to max out three colors but left green lagging behind. Ty was the most ingenious among us by getting all his colors up over 10. A fun filler that should be played a lot.

Ra

(August, Clint, Robert)
