Session Report for Friday 7/26/2008

6 Gamers 8 Games

Zertz

(Bart, Marshall)

10 Days in Asia

(August, Robert, Greg S.)

Dvonn

(Bart, Marshall)

Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation Deluxe Edition

(Robert, Greg S.)

Aquaretto

(Marshall, Robert, Clint, Greg S., Bart)

Aquaretto is extremely similar to Zooloretto except that you don't have fixed enclosures. You can build a chain of similar animal tiles in any shape you want so long as they're all orthogonal and don't touch any different animals. This gives the game a little extra challenge that I enjoyed. Also, you can earn workers which you can place in several ways to receive bonus points. Overall, I enjoyed the game quite a bit. I think I prefer it to Zooloretto actually.

Pillars of the Earth with expansion

(Marshall, Robert, Clint, Greg S., Bart, August)

The expansion takes Pillars up to a 6 player game and adds some extra choices for the master builders. It certainly is an interesting game with lots to think about, but with 6 it goes a bit long unless everyone is really taking quick turns.

1960, Making of the President

(Greg S., Robert)

Went to the very end. On the last turn, Nixon crippled Kennedy by calling a Congressional Summer Session (all Kennedy cards went to 1 point each), but Nixon didn't have momentum to take full advantage of Kennedy's fistful of Nixon events.

As a last ditch effort, Kennedy issued a policy statement on Defense and neutralized the East Coast glitterati endorsement Nixon was depending on.

Winding down for the election, Kennedy campaigned in Marlyand and brought the state polls to neck-and-neck. Without a Nixon edge and no clear-cut endorsement, Maryland stayed historical and went Democratic, giving Kennedy a 270-267 electoral victory.
