Hey, it's the end of the year already! We've had our last game
session of 2005 so it's time to take a look back and see what we've
accomplished. I bet some of this will come as a surprise to you.
First of all a little history, as soon as I moved to Wichita last
February I joined the meetup.com boardgame group (meetup.com is a
site that lets people with common interests organize face to face
meetings). There were only 5 members in the group and we didn't have
any success in meeting to play games. Then Drew started contacting
everybody in the Wichita area (including me) through
Boardgamegeek.com. Turns out, at the time we were the only two active
members of BGG in the Wichita area. We met, along with my wife
Cristy, for the first ever game session at the Starbucks on Rock Rd
and Central. We played Ticket to Ride and Rumis and that was it.
After that the meetup.com site started charging fees so we abandoned
it and went to the yahoo group. Drew got all of his friends to join
the group and the nucleus was formed. Immediately we began meeting on
the third Saturday of the month at PDC. Once a month, however, is not
quite enough to scratch my boardgaming itch so we struggled to work
out a way to play twice a month. After sputtering around and trying
different nights not much was working out until Agents Comics and
Games offered to host the meetings on the first Friday of the month
beginning in September. That was an immediate success and ever since
we've had 2 sessions a month.
As a bonus as the year went along we were joined by other players and
even picked up some more regulars. On occasion we've even had to
break up into two games! I've kept track of every game played at each
of our sessions for just this purpose, here's a summary of who played
what in 2005.
