Scenario Description
You and your companions find yourselves passengers on a creaking, yet surprisingly seaworthy caravel, Seamist. The master of the trading guild had charged you and your motley crew with searching into the disappearance of several vessels within the past two cycles of the moon. A thick fog bank has settled in over the sea, a soft blue light beacons. The light calls out with the promise of safe harbor; the captain makes hard for a place to lay anchor. As the ship slaps through the waves, a sudden and horrific grinding of wood upon gnarled stone is heard. That was one hour ago…
You raise your head up off the sand and realize the pounding in your head is punctuated by the smashing surf. The wreckage of the ship lies scattered about the shore and you notice other figures moving about, survivors. As you begin gathering provisions and salvageable gear you make note of a cold granite tower inland with a blue beacon at its peak…the source of the soft light that lured you to this point.
Characters
The Survivors:
Feldan Torrida, sorcerer of the ninth order and master of the siege. The first member of the party to be contacted by the guild, a grim-faced, tight-lipped, and introspective man. He has been appointed leader of the expedition by the guild master and has demonstrated his resourcefulness up to this point.
Hrothgar the Sour, the only surviving member of the original ship’s crew. The boisterous barbarian is a skilled sailor and served as master at arms for the Seamist. A devout guildsman and distruster of the arcane he has spent much of the voyage keeping any eye on the members of the expedition. He and Feldan have shared cross words on more than one occasion.
Glarin Mordoth, a veteran scout and tracker from the recent border skirmishes. He has made a name for himself with the guild as an outrider for two quite value caravans. The scout is relentless, once he gets the scent of his prey, preferring surprise and ambush as tactics. He is stoic and short of words, keeping quiet company with ship’s navigator and watchman.
Freya the Armour, a smith of famed skill, she was hired on as a sword arm to support the expedition. Her skills have been used previously by the guild on other excursions to good effect. She is amiable and good-natured, blending in well with both the expedition party and the ships crew.
Richard Stiles appears to be a close and trusted companion of Feldan’s. The leader of the expedition has claimed that Richard is an expert troubleshooter. Throughout the voyage Richard has kept mainly to himself, speaking mostly in quiet tones to Feldan, though he keeps a constant eye on those around him.
Darius Glasspool, highly skilled loremaster and historian, he was the last member of the party to be contracted by the guild. Having been forced into study as a youth, Darius has turned to swordplay in years of late. His approach to most situations carries an air of complete nonchalance, but his knowledge is sound. The guild hires only the best so the depth of his knowledge must be worth something.
