Scenario Description
Getting yanked off the street by a bunch of Imperial troops can really
ruin your afternoon. Being held in detention afterwards, why that can
spoil the rest of your week. Accused of smuggling data for the
rebels... that can ruin your life rather quickly!
Unless, of course, you agree to help root out these "friends" of yours
- whom you've never met. A few unlucky others and yourself have been
implanted with special transcievers by your generous benefactor, Moff
Breen. They transmit your location... and recieve the command to
detonate the part which makes these tranceivers "special".
Succeed, and you'll be set free (Sans implanted doom? You wish).
Fail... remember that Moff Breen is a renowned collector of antique
torture devices, which are known to maim a limb or two. Betray the
Empire, and evaporate in a smallish thermonuclear flash.
In the service of the Empire, it is never "choose your own adventure" -
more like "choose your own fate". May the force be with you.
Characters
Alain Mekesburgh (Almost Former Noble)
"...of the Alderanian Mekesburghs. What, you haven't heard of us?
Why our parties are the highlight of the season... well they were.
Something happened back home, and now its gone. The whole planet.
Those racous rebels claim it was the Empire, but I don't see how thats
possible. Sure, since the Senate was desolved, its gotten worse as
the Emporor's favorite pets exact their playful cruelty on the
citizenry, but surely they wouldn't wipe out a whole planet.
Especially one home to the social elite of the Near Rim..."
Recently graduated from the University of Alderan (Masters in
Philosophy), you were on a grand tour of the Core Worlds when the news
about home came. Penniless without his family's large bank accounts
back home, he has sold the luxuries (well, he sees them as
necessities) out of his suitcases for passage to Varlelsha. His Uncle
Reynar, the black sheep of the family, ran a import/export business
there, last he heard...
Dasha Rekkard (Mechanic/Pilot)
"Hand me that spanner over there. No, the one with the blue anodized
finish. Thanks... now for the finishing touches... theres no way I
can lose the next race!"
A natural born mechanic, Dasha surpassed her older brothers in the
mechanical arts at an early age. She started racing as a way to put
her mechanical inventions to the ultimate test. According to her
great-grandfather, her great-great-grandfather was the first of her
family to have opened a speeder shop at Varlelsha's spaceport, the
city of Elshimin.
Tandis Quernister, AKA Greylocke, AKA Deadeye Faster (Slicer)
"Stop calling me Tandis! My name is Greylocke! You can beat me up
today, but you can bet tomorrows homework assignment is going to
mysteriously disapear from your datapad!"
Regarding his given name as a handicap, he prefers to be known by his
lightname even outside of the nets, grids, and mainframes. His
parents killed when their ship's transponder broke while in line at an
Imperial customs checkpoint, he was brought up by his grandmother (the
only person, it seems, that is allowed to call him "Tandis"). Given
the way his parents died, it is not so suprising that he harbors a
distaste for all things Imperial; to date, his most successful strike
at the Empire has been reprogramming the spaceport's public protocol
droid to spout anti-Imperial rhetoric at the behest of the imaginary
"Deadeye Faster". His only friend is a halfway functional astromech
droid, R1E9.
Elista Narthlis (Starship Crewman/Con Artist)
"If you don't take those eyes off of me I'll serve them to you on a
plate."
Being the subject of endless oggling growing up, Elista went hyper as
soon as she could hitch a ride; regrettably, she had to use the charms
she so despised in order to do so. To end her dependency on looks,
she learned as much as she could about starships and machines, to be
hired on her merits rather than her looks. Since even her carefully
cultured talents failed to gain acendency over her alluring nature,
she slowly learned to use this to strike back at her despicable
admirers. Since stealing from your employer is a quick way to get
fired, she sometimes finds herself marooned on planets just like
Varlelsha, in cities just like Elshimin.
DrekHar Thornequivst (Former Mob Enforcer)
"I don't want to break your fingers, but if you don't pay up..."
DrekHar spent his youth growing up in blissful peace. As a young man,
he discovered that his quiet childhood in such noisy times was due to
the efforts of the local crime family. Seeing The Family as his
benefactor, and wishing to serve the community from which he came, he
joined enthusiastically as soon as he was able. His zealotry in
protecting his neighborhood was recognized quickly, and exploited-
DrekHar soon found himself sent to do the most terrible tasks, and he
learned that peace in his neighborhood was due to the violent acts
that The Family committed elsewhere. Disenchanted, he did the
impossible; he left The Family behind. Knowing it wasn't safe to be
anywhere within his former employer's reach, he ran as far away as he
could- to Varlelsha.
Bremen Kelsay (Ex Cop)
"You're under arrest!"
Back before martial law had arrived in Elshimin, security was provided
by elected Deputies to the Magistrate. Bremen was one of those brave
men, arresting smugglers and other undesirables. Possesing the
planet's largest and only full-service spaceport, Elshimin was the
busiest beat in the system. Now, due to the Imperials staging men and
supplies all over Varlelsha, the local police forces and judges have
been dismissed in all but the most remote regions. The fact that the
Imperials are so corrupt; not searching ships belonging to the Hutts
and releasing local criminals for graft grates on his nerves. One of
these days, he'd love to put Moff Breen under citizen's arrest...
Captain Caelon Wolfensdale (Ex Starship Captain)
"I don't have the credits with me... but you could take it out of the
consigned cargo in my holds. Just make sure you seal those crates
back up..."
Maybe "Captain" is a little grand for someone who has been a former
"Captain" of a small freighter he crewed himself. "Tradition must be
observed" is a favorite quote, but a tiresome one coming from someone
who hasn't seen vac in the five years since his ship was impounded.
It is even more tiresome if you're one of the many trying to exact the
credits you loaned him (hey, starships, even small ones, are
expensive). In any case, he makes a living around port matching up
locals who have goods to be shipped with pursers and quartermasters
that find their ships have a bit of "undocumented" space. Caelon
collects a portion of the money saved compared to going through more
"official" channels.
